Back in the days of Netscape Communicator there was a great feature that was
left out of Mozilla/Firefox. There should be an update bookmarks feature that
brings up a what's new menu. One can look for documents that have changed on all
bookmarks or selected bookmarks. When one started checking this information, the
icon of the bookmark would change if the page were updated since the last time
the bookmark was visited. It would be a nice feature to adjust the bookmark for
url changes or if a page no longer exists. The icon change for updates is a
great feature that really helps the user. It is the only reason I personally
have communicator still installed. Please add this enhancement so I can move on
in my browser world!!

There is an extension that does what you want.
http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/bookmarkchecker
Seamonkey bug 51207

Note that you used to be able to schedule updates of bookmarks in Firefox :
right-click on the bookmark (in the bookmark manager), and select 'Properties'.
Although bug 253478 has disabled it for Firefox 1.0, it will come back later in
Firefox 1.1.
The bookmark checker that you refer to was not linked on the firefox site and
hence did not see it. After trying to install it I get that Bookmark Link
Checker 0.6.8 could not be installed because it is not compatible with this
version of Firefox (Bookmark Link Checker 0.6.8 will only work with Firefox
versions from 0.9 to 0.9.2+).

Can this be added to the core features of firefox?
I just figured out there was a new version of bookmark checker at
http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=14. This seems to add an
icon to the alt-bookmarks pull down menu, not the bookmarks manager folder, but
this is a great start! Keep up the great work!!
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
