I am using the version 1.0RC1 (20041201) I am a user of a news server that requires a userid and password to log into the server. I checked with the support group at Newshosting.com and they confrmed that they also could not enter an id and password. Therefore I cannot use the premium news server. I believe that this is a bug. Thanks Stan

Please don't report bug from old software and 1.0PR is old. TB only asks for the username/password if the server wants it. If you have a server that works without Authentification for normal access and with password for poremium access you have to check the always request authentification checkbox in the server settings. -> invalid

Thanks for the prompt reply. I check for updates often. In fact I just checked using the Update button from Tools/Options/Advanced and after several minutes it came back and said that it couldn't find any available updates! Is this a bug? Or should I be looking for updates elsewhere. Where do I get an update? Thanks Stan

Download it from http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/ You are using a 1.0RC (PR=Release Candidate) and the update is not working in that version (disabled bvecause it's not the final Version and should only be used to find errors before the 1.0 Release) Please only reopen this bug report you see this in 1.0 (not 1.0RC)and you either use a news server which requires Authentification and doesn't work without or if you have a mixed server and you enabled the reuqest authentification checkbox. And if you reopen this bug report, add a news log (http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html) and describe what's happening. If you want user support try the Forum at http.//www.mozillazine.org -> invalid PS: The request Authentificatiuon checkbox should be already in 1.0 RC1 and that means that it should work in your build if you enable it. Thanks
