Details
I'm not much of a tech person but here goes. I downloaded thunderbird and installed it yesterday. I set up some folders and message rules. I then changed the name of a folder and forgot to change the name on the message rule. I got an error message when an email came in from that person saying it didn't know where to put it because the folder was gone, but the email didn't land anywhere in Thunderbird. I would think it would have gone to my inbox but it didn't. They were not dropped back into my regular mailbox on ATT either. Mind you, I have figured this all out with 20/20 hindsight and having a big fight with my boss who said he sent me two emails and I have no record of either of them. Thanks.

Do you use "Global Inbox"? (Default on account creation is "Global Inbox to 'Local Folders'") If yes, "the email didn't land anywhere in Thunderbird" when filter failure is same situation as Bug 273778 and Bug 274330. And same case as Bug 273778(folder is deleted, then filter failed). But your case contains another problem also; - When folder of "Global Inbox" account(deffered account) is renamed, filter rule of mail account(deffering account) is not changed automatically. Since "deffered account" and "deffering accout" is different account, this is normal and current design, but confuses Global Inbox users very easily. By the way, your "lost" emails are probably saved in accounts's Inbox folder(hidden account). Try next peocedure. (1) Change to non Global Inbox environment. (1-1) Go "Account settings" of the account(Not "Local Folders") (1-2) Go "Server Settings" then click "Adadvanced" button (1-3) Choose POP3 tab (1-4) Change global inbox use settings from "Global Inbox (Local Folders Account)" to "Inbox for this server's account" (2) The account will appear in folder pane (3) Move all required mails of the account to folder of "Local Folders" (4) Tools/Message Filters for the account(not Local Folders) - Re-specify target folder of all "move to folder" action (5) Change back Global inbox use settings from "Inbox for this server's account" to "Global Inbox (Local Folders Account)" Step (2) to step (5) is completely same as procedure to migrate form usual use (non-global-inbox) to Global Inbox use. See Thundebird FAQ at Knoeledge Base of MozillaZine for above recovery procedure. http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml?title=Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Global_Inbox See also another FAQ for message filter when Global Inbox. http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml?title=Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Filters

Exactly the same behavior as described in bug 273778. WADA, it has nothing to do with the global inbox. I'll file a testcase in bug 273778. Duping to bug 273778 so we only have to watch one bug. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 273778 ***
