I received an email message formatted in html containing a mailto link to
multiple email addresses in the form :

<mailto:first0%20last0%20%3Cfirst0.last0@a.com%3E,%20first1%20last1%20%3Cb.com%3E,%20first2%20last2%20%3Cc.com>

This was entered in an html message using Thunderbird's 'Insert HTML' facility.
I entered plain spaces, commas, and angle brackets (<>) as email addresses are
commonly quoted.

If I click on the link in order to send a message to the list of addresses, a
compose window appears, and it will correctly separate the addresses.

Right clicking on the list and selecting 'add to address book' results in a
single entry in the address book with one long 'address'.

Please consider changing the behaviour to separate the addresses correctly.

Not necessarily for imported address book files. Even if you create a new entry.

Let's say your entry is for Joe Smith. He has two email addresses. Everytime you
email him, you want it to go to both addresses. In the address book you put in
both addresses like, jsmith@psu.edu, jsmith@gmail.com

Nickname is "Joe."

Create a new message. In the "To:" field you type, "Joe." The field
automatically fills in but this is how it will look: Joe Smith
<"jsmith"@psu.edu, jsmith@gmail.com>

It puts quotes around the first part of the first email address. The is very
reproducible.
This was fixed by bug 169432 (same description) duping to that one
