....at least that''s what I THINK is going on. As in when you start typing an
url to go somewhere, it immediately populates a drop-down of possible matches
for whatever your typing. If I have muffed the summary, forgive me. I'm simply
trying to turn this off, have searched and searched and cannot find anywhere to
do so; the "begin finding..." option under accessibility is the closest possible
concept I can find, so I titled the summary such. If this is another preference,
i'm all ears.....

Hey, when I just submitted bugzilla generated an error, saying illegal OS or
something similar. I hit BACK, CHANGED it too OSX (it had self-populated) and I
am, for the record, running latest patches as of 12/21/04 --FYI

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to Preferences-Advanced-Accessibility
2.assure Begin finding as you begin typing
3.begin typing an url in the navigation bar

Actual Results:
I am immediately offered myriad choices matching what i'm typing.

Expected Results:
I wish to see no choices.
find-as-you-type has nothing to do with the locationbar.

We used to have a pref in Seamonkey (browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled), but
it doesn't exists in Firefox at the moment. A workaround was to set the histroy
to 0, but that doesn't work anymore either ...

Is there a plan to fix this? IMHO, it is a BIG problem. Others can see, merely
by looking over your shoulder, where you've been surfing. Or if another uses
your computer/browser, typin in an url the locationbar can allow others to know
where you've been. I love Firefox, and have been a Mozilla user/proponent for
years but feel w/o this ability (to disable this sort of fill in) Firefox is
unusable in public. My 2 cents...and it pains me to feel this way.

That's bug 234110, which this one was duplicated against.

About the privacy problem : that's why you can clear all that information in the
Preferences window ...
Got it. I now understand the issue. Thanks for the enlightenment.

So: is there a plan to disable autocomplete at some point? The 234110 bug is
interesting, and we all agree this is an issue, but it doesn't speak to whether
this is on the roadmap for getting solved Firefox. I too enjoy my history, but
do not wish autocomplete to be enabled w/ no option to turn it off.
Like J.B. Nicholson-Owens indicated last 4/24/04, to me this is a bit of a
show-stopper. It is annoying, and also a privacy issue.
Again: not a criticism, do not read it as such --i'm not a programmer, have
nothing but respect for all the hard work going into this, and its why i'm
taking the time to participate in my own little way and point this thing out....
