I cut a small section of site within a table and pasted it in Thunderbird new mail. All that copies is an empty table cell. The table cell cannot be deleted. The process of cut in the browser and paste works ok when the paste is in outlook express.

You copied the text from Firefox, I presume? Which version of FF, and which version of TB? If you could provide a URL to the page, and specify exactly which text you had selected, I might be able to reproduce this. As it is, I can't. To delete the table or cell, you need to first select the table or cell and then choose a subitem from the menu: Format | Table | Delete

version 1.0 (20041206) Thunderbird I was using IE 6. I was using the whois function in Network Solutions and was copying the site data and tring to paste it into Thunderbird. It wouldn't paste. However, it pasted in OE without problem.

It's pasting for me. "The site data" is not very precise -- exactly where on the page did you start the selection of the "small section of site within a table", and where did you end it?

I was using the Network Solutions Account Manager and was reviewing my domain details. One must be logged in to get this page. I copied from below the "Domain Details" header which starts with the domain name down 9 lines to just before the line "Change domain to point to". I tried it again just now and it pastes into a Thunderbird Compose document a full width pink cell with no contents.

If you paste into another HTML-aware program -- say, Microsoft Word -- do the missing contents appear there?

Yes. I just tried it and it pastes as three separate tables. I also did a special paste - text only, it pastes as plain text not in a table.

If you paste the problematic clipboard into Thunderbird *without* formatting (under the Edit menu), does the expected plain text appear in the message window? Do you see this problem for any copy/paste from IE and that site? Or does it happen only for the particular bit of text you're attempting to get? Try this: get the problem text into the clipboard, then start the Clipboard Viewer (clipbrd.exe). Then save the clip (File | Save As) as an NT Clip file; and attach that that file to this bug (using the Create New Attachment link above).

The empty box pastes for any copy from this web page. The paste without formatting works in Thunderbird. While the bug is still present. This represents a work around. Thanks for your help.

I was able to reproduce the bug. I did a search to find this bug, as I independantly found the bug. I was at, in firefox, http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=fusionathletics.com&type=A and wanted to copy the table into thunderbird (TB)(version 1.0 (20041206)) "reply to" message body area. I selected the entire table and right clicked, selected copy. (control c) and went to TB and selected paste (control-v), and got nothing. No empty cell, no cursor movement, nothing. So I wanted to see if I was losing my mind, I opened word 2003, and hit control-v there, and my table appeared. This made me upset, anyways, I reselected the desired text in word, and hit copy, went back to TB, and hit paste, control-v and the text appeared. Awesome, I now have to keep a memory pig (word) open. Pasting straight text works great until it comes from an HTML table.

Thank you very much for that example; this bug is easy to reproduce from that URL. The problem occurs as well in NVu and Mozilla HTML mail and HTML composer (1.8a6 and 1.7.5). It appears to be very similar, perhaps a dupe, to bug 242580. Attachment coming up.

This is the file representing the clipboard contents after copying the table as described in comment 9. You can load the data into the clipboard using the Clipbook Viewer (in Windows 2000 -- I don't know for sure whether this same utility is available for WinXP or Win9x). See bug 242580 comment 1 for my analysis of what this data means.

clipbook viewer is available on XP, but not on vista. :( If remote desktop is working correctly for me, this is WFM on trunk version 3.0a1pre (2008021703). But not in version 2. maybe bug 242580 is gone too?
