Details

Can't disable full-page plugins in Moz or FF.

In Mozilla (1.7.3; I'm building 1.7.5 right now) / Linux:

Edit -> Prefs -> Navigator -> Helper Apps

  - just a list of mime-types that must be manually entered (i.e.
    I currently only have a few items in the list, none of which
    mention MP3 nor mplayer, but when I click on a plain link on
    a website to an MP3 file, it starts the mplayer plugin without
    asking me anything)

Edit -> Prefs -> Navigator -> Downloads

  - nothing about plugins

Edit -> Prefs -> Advanced -> Scripts & Plugins

  - only a single checkbox to enable plugins for mail & newsgroups

In Firefox (1.0) / Linux:

Edit -> Prefs -> Downloads -> Plug-Ins button

  - pops up a Plug-Ins window with only 2 items in its list (even
    though about:plugins shows many more)... there is an "Enabled"
    column but it has no checkmarks and it's non-clickable. Under
    the list it says, "Disabling Plug-Ins for a file type will
    cause files of that type to be downloaded instead of being
    viewed in the Plug-In" ... however there's no Disable button.
    The items in the list are also not right-clickable.
Do you see the mp3 in "about:plugins" (as URl) ?

Yes, and it is listed under mplayer.
thanks, that makes it a dupe of bug 19118
