The scrollbar for the message list in Thunderbird is a few pixels to the left of
the right edge of the screen. That means if you slide your mouse all the way
over to the right and try to scroll, it won't work. Related to bug 52888.
You mean for a maximized window?

What theme, and do you have any extensions installed that might cause this?
Because I don't see it with TB 1.0, Win2K, no extensions.
Severity: normal → minor
Yes, for a maximized window. No themes or extensions installed. Using Tbird 1.0.
The message content works fine, but the list of messages and subjects does not.
OK, I see this -- I slid my mouse all the way over and turned the wheel to
scroll, which worked fine; it's clicking on the scrollbar background, or slider,
that fails with the mouse flush right over the message pane.
Jerry, are you saying this a regression of bug 52888? or only that 52888 deals with similar issues?

In 2.0, can you see similar behavior in the folder pane - i.e. does a click positioned at left edge select the folder at that position?
Summary: Message List Scrollbar Not at Right Edge → Thread Pane Message List Scrollbar of maximized window not clickable at Right Edge
Bug 52888 is the corollary bug in Mozilla. This is the identical issue, but in Thunderbird. I don't know about 2.0, but I still see the issue in nightlies.
I should note that I'm not having any issues relating to selecting folders, only to scrolling using the scrollbar on the right edge of the Thunderbird window.
The window does not need to be maximized. It's just that when maximized it's easier to see this bug, but you can carefully land the mouse between the scrollbar and the inside edge of the Thunderbird window regardless of the window's state of maximization.
This exists on Mac OS X, too. There seems to be an extra row of pixels, or the scroll widget is one pixel too far to the left.

For the threadpane, there are three window pixels to the right of the scroller. If you manage to click on the far right of these (the one right at the edge of the window), and drag, scrolling fails to work.

In normal Mac windows, including the Tbird message pane and new message windows, there are only two pixels to the right of the scroller, and this effect can't be reproduced in those.

XUL problem? Or just a specification issue in the panel's definition?

The folder pane is never at window right edge so it can always have a border; the message pane is always at window right edge so it has no border and scrolling at screen edge works; the thread pane may be at window right edge or not, so it's a bit problematic as a border may be wanted when it's neighboring a separator.
still true in v3
Richard can you reproduce?

I thought I did. But then I restarted and could not.

I can't reproduce this.

I close it as WORKSFORME. If someone can reproduce it, it can be reopened.
