Details

No matter which set of outgoing mail settings I choose as default Thunderbird
keeps using the first one I entered in. I can't use that SMTP server anymore,
but Thunderbird won't let me switch from it. It says the new settings in the
Account Setting window, but when I actually click send it still tries to connect
to and use the old server. Essentially, I can't send mail right now with
Thunderbird. This problem persists in the 12-25-04 build.
Summary: can't switch outgoing mail server → bug! - can't switch outgoing mail server
Go to the account settings for the receiving account; select Server Settings,
click the Advanced button, and look at the SMTP tab. Normally, the setting
should be "Use default server" but it frequently seems to be changed behind the
scenes to point to a specific (and sometimes out-of-date) server.

If this solves your problem, either mark this bug Resolved|WorksForMe or
(perhaps) dupe it to bug 170089 or bug 202468.
This really appears to be a duplicate of [Bug 254385].
So... the bug is "fixed". I was just failing to manuver through the menus
properly . It looked to me like the SMTP server you set as default where I was
doing, changed the SMTP server that was used to send mail... but you have to
change that individually for each account, as has been shown to me now. Sorry
for the duplicate bug. I wonder if there isn't I more clear way to arrange/label
the menus?
