FF Hangs on loading inbox for Yahoo Mail
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. goto http://mail.yahoo.com
2. login click enter
3. upon loading inbox firefox hangs and computer requires hard restart
(Ctrl-Alt-Del does NOT work) and while mouse (w/ hour glass) is still movable
nothing is clickable
Actual Results:
I had to restart my computer
Expected Results:
Shown me my inbox
I found a work-around: using adblock I blocked all images "*" and noticed I
could now view my mail. Working backwards (with several restarts) I found that
the only things required to block for a working site is the key:
http://*yimg.com/i/us/pim/r/medici/*
which blocks 3 images and a javascript (but I always block the javascript and
still hangs). I was able to view the individual images without problem. There is
a .css file included in the wildcard and it is unblocked but causes several
errors in the JS Console. Problem occurs in Win98 and Win98SE.
My system is currently: Gateway G6-450; 450MHz P2; 320MB RAM; Win98SE; Hangs on
Firefox 1.0, Firefix Nightly Dec26, and Mozilla 1.7.5
I am trying to setup the computer for gf's folks and they need yahoo mail
otherwise they'll use IE.
Thanks for looking; I hope this isn't a dupe, but I don't have that much
debugging info, because it causes me to restart.

I login to Yahoo mail regularly an have never had a problem with Firefox hanging
or locking up the whole computer http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs
I too am witnessing the same problem; yahoo inbox majorly, and other websites too occassionally.

Bhavesh are you using windows 98? If you follow the directions at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_%28Firefox%29 can you still see the problem?
I am running ff 1.5 on fedora core 4.
I tried every step on http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_(Firefox)
but I still am not able to open yahoo inbox. ff freezes.
It occassionally freezes on other sites too.
My colleages are facing no such issue. I am not behind any firewall.
I was running ff peacefully until now for last many years, but this freezing problem has popped up all of a sudden. I did not install any extension or theme of late.
thanks.
bhavesh
Woah, this is not supposed to include linux, but win98... Are you running Earthlink accelerator or something like it?
I think I may have narrowed the problem down to Earthlink accelerator, which uses a proxy to downsample all the images and make it faster over a modem. The crash I observed was because of an image loading, because adblocking that image fixed the crash.

This isn't reproduceable on Trunk (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a2pre) Gecko/20070101 Minefield/3.0a2pre) with the steps given.
As has been suggested, the steps at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_(Firefox should resolve this problem for anyone that's encountering it.
If anyone can reproduce this on latest trunk or a current release, after following all the steps suggested at the URL above, please feel free to reopen.
