Please check the proxy settings and try again". However, valid websites work fine. IE6, using the same proxy settings, is able to give a 'that URL can't be found'-type error, so I do not think the proxy is to blame. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Setup proxy in Firefox 2. Browse or type-in bad URL 3. See error message about proxy not being found Actual Results: "The proxy server you have configured could not be found. Please check the proxy settings and try again" Expected Results: Said the URL was invalid, not the proxy. using a SOCKS4 proxy (dante) thru a PuTTY<->OpenSSH Tunnel.
Similar problems with a SOCKS5 proxy. Should say host not found, instead says proxy not found.
Possible dupe of Bug 226943, need to await response of Reporter in that bug.
