large area at bottom of browser, under component bar, shows some script /
program text. Currently showing the following text: "__^ <menuitem".

Tis area is sometimes larger or smaller (1/2" to 1.5") and contains varying
text, usually including the text "menuitem".
Do you use a non-english version of Mozilla or a language pack? Did you install
1.7.5 over an old version?

Try the following:

solution 1:
Delete the file Xul.mfl in your Mozilla profile. If this does not help,
additonally delete the file chrome.rdf in the chrome subdirectory of the profile
(you will lost the setup for all extra local installed themes/extensions).

solution 2:
If sol. 1 does not help, try to install the English language pack.

Did it help?
 I installed an Extension Uninstaller & un-installed
previously installed components one by one till the
problem disappeared. It turned out to be a Plug-In
called IE-View, which I installed recently. This
Plug-in isn't compatible with Mozilla ver. 1.7.5, but
I didn't realize that when I installed it, and the
problem did not surface right away.

   Thanks for your help.
