Details
I am using Thunderbird 1.0, and in general I am pleased with it, but somehow it forgets filters that I create. It seems to remember it a few days, and then I have to reenter them, because the whole list has disappeared.

Roy Oestensen, is this problem persisting for you? I have never encountered this symptom. What sort of mail account is this -- IMAP or POP3? When the filters are remembered for "a few days" are you opening and closing the program over that period of time, or leaving it open all the time? When the list disappears, does that happen after restarting the program? You can make a backup copy of the msgFilterRules.dat file(s) in your profile -- there will be one for each account defined in your system. If they disappear again, you can copy the backup back to the account directory, which may be a little easier than re-entering the filters.
Summary: Filters don't bite → Filters disappear

Mike, I can confirm this one - I have been using TBird for a week and many filters I have created seem to have disappeared this morning after a clean start of TBird - I can see their previous application in the filter log but they are no longer listed in the interface, nor are they in the appropriate (or any) msgFilterRules.dat. Is this the same problem as bug 277189? If so, this bug should be duped to that one, as that one provides a full Steps To Reproduce.
