Details
I suggest that you add the following feature to Firefox. If you go to the
address bar and enter a new URL, it takes your current tab to the new address. I
think it would be very useful to give the user the option to either:
1) Change the current tab to the new address (the way it works now)
OR
2) Open a new tab and take you to the new address
Ideally, this would be an option under the "Tabbed Browsing" section of the
options Advanced menu.

This function is already available. Just use Alt+Enter to open the URL in a new
tab. Adding a pref to do this by default is not something that will likely be
done. It is however, the subject of bug 268039.
