Details

The firefox *.tar.gz has no README or INSTALL file.
This is customary in the unix world, even if you think 
the installation instructions are so simple that anyone 
can figure them out at a glance.  You should still have 
a simple text file that says "The installation process is 
simple, just do this.".

the installer tarball could just do what the the non-installer tarball includes:
http://lxr.mozilla.org/mozilla/source/browser/app/README.txt
except that the URL it points to just redirects to a pretty useless page.  It
should point here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/
