If I set up a bookmark with a keyword and '%s' in the URL, I know I can open it by typing it in the location bar. It would also be nice if I could open it by *clicking* on it from the 'Bookmarks' menu or the 'Bookmarks Toolbar'. And since I am not explicitly typing in any search text, it should search any *selected text( that I select on the current webpage. Scenario 1: Everytime I want to search 'Dictionary.com' for a word from a webpage, I have to: [mouse], select, copy, [keyboard], type 'dict', paste, enter. I recently discovered Jesse Ruderman's Bookmarklets (http://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/) which allowed me to directly add a javascript bookmark to my 'Bookmarks Toolbar' so I can just [mouse], select, click bookmark button. But then I thought, not everyone knows javascript, so not everyone will know how to create a Bookmarklet for their favorite searches. And also, I already have a bookmark-search for Dictionary.com so why can't I merge them both together? Hence this enhancement request.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. sorry for bugspam, long-overdue mass reassign of ancient QA contact bugs, filter on "beltznerLovesGoats" to get rid of this mass change
QA Contact: mconnor → bookmarks
I just would like to give a vote for this enhancement with some other enhancements. If the quicksearch-bookmark is clicked without a selected text then an input box should pop-up asking for the searched word. - given that quicksearch is a bookmark I can imagine that it is hard to realize If I move my mouse over a quicksearch bookmark line then a label(? Like "Refresh this page" over the refresh button) should appear that says me the quicksearch letters as "Use: dict <word>" or something similar.

This would be a really poorly discoverable thing, comment 0 points out that bookmarklets are just for experts, but the suggested solution is clearly not better since it's still something just a minimal part of users may know about. A different story is "Search <engine> for <selection>" in context menu of a selection, since that is feasible with a single engine, something we can't do with multiple keywords.
