It seems connected to the loading of an applet.
Current JRE is 1.4.2_03
There was 1.5 too then disinstalled

Severity: normal → critical
Andrea the freeze you see is your Java Virtual Machine starting -> not a Mozilla
issue i'm afraid.
Closing the page gives me no error. Have a look at http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/
and see if this resolves your problem.
Can you report back here? Thank you!

Oops, forgot to add.
Use Firefox1.0 , not RC1, it's too old.

Yes it seems connected to the JVM.
Removing the 1.5 Sun JSDE caused the problem.
While the java version roll back to 1.4.2_03 JavaPlugin does not work properly.
Installing again 1.4.2_03 solves the problem.
Anyway I expected Firefox gives an error insted of freezing.
Sorry for the time you spent on it

As to the freeze: there are some bugs listed that Firefox should tolerate a
plugin malfunction crash.
