277381 - Slow in reading mail accounts

Since a few days, Thunderbird comes to be very slow in reading the messages
stored in my different account windows. Notably the main one.
I noticed that the file Inbox in the directory localhost is already 217 Mo !
So I suppose it is too big, but...
What should be done ?

I did it already several times. But it doesn't make things really better.
