Yes, please try JRE1.5.x
I installed the latest java plugin, and it seemed to work OK. So I clicked in
the address box to type in the bugzilla address, but oddly the pull down menu
didn't appear with history. Then I tried google.com and FireFox just went odd
and wouldn't load - the throbber for example froze. Trying to load a website in
a new tab also gave the same result - and this was all directly after I had
loaded the java applet. What's more it wouldn't load again - clicking on
'#sound' for example brought up the popup window but with an empty page
(although a loading cursor). This had also happened once before with the new
java plugin, but then firefox had just crashed.
However, I have managed to get the java applet to appear, without Firefox
crashing. It just went a bit odd later on as I mentioned above.

1. did you reboot after installing jre1.5 ?
2. give the applet some time, it loads very very slowly (2 minutes on my 2.2Mb
adsl).
I haven't had this problem again... yet. But it just seems to me in general that
jre is very buggy.

Yeah, well it improves with every new FF and every new JRE version.
No doubt it will be right one day ;-)
