This is not so much a bug but an undefined/missing feature.

I am looking to visit a series of sites one after the other. Saving this
"scenario" [session history] is necessary in order to be able to reload it on
opening the browser afresh.

It was understood that this feature was in Mozilla products but is not
immediately visible in 1.7x.

Is this feature hidden, planned or available only in other products? When will
it appear in 1.7x or later?
If you open each page in a new tab, you can then bookmark the group of tabs.
Marking WFM as bookmark groups do the trick.

For bugs which are enhancement requests (like this one), please use severity
'enhancement' in future.
Comment #1 - This only saves the current pages not what went before. The process
I am looking for is to be able to click on BACK and visit previous pages.

Comment #2 - Can you elaborate on "Marking WFM" I don't understand this.

Comment #3 - set to enhancement.

Has anyone picked this enhancement to also save the browsing history when saving
a group of tabs, so that one can reboot the PC and then pickup where one left
off after the reboot by reloading the group of tabs and still be able to click
Back and Forward on the individual reloaded tabs as if the PC had never been
rebooted?

I am using a recent version of 1.8b2 and if the feature is available its not
immediately obvious where to find it.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
