since a few weeks the mailnews icon in the status bar of mozilla does not change
its face to the new mail icon (with green arrow).
Yep, I see it on Windows XP also.

Did the mail notification sound stop working at the same time (bug 276372)?

Now as bug 276372 has been fixed it works with today's build again.
So marking this as duplicate should be OK.
