i'm unable to open many pages in  firefox - sometimes they get timed out -
sometimes they never finish loading (i have to stop the page loading manually) -
sometimes several refreshes will get them opened - a typical example is
www.dabs.com which will rarely open in firefox (only roughly one time in ten) -
yet it will always open in Internet Explorer - changing my proxy settings
doesn't work (i've tried direct to internet, auto detect and manual settings,
all to no avail) - the problem seems to occur randomly but so often i fear i
shall have to return to IE - i have tried all the usual stuff, restarting PC,
restarting firefox , etc. etc. -

Reporter, you forgot to inform us as to your current version of FireFox. Try
downloading and using one of the nightly updates and if it still doesn't work,
report back with which version it was with.

hi - i've downloaded the latest nightly update and the problem still exists - 
also a new problem has occured that has forced me to uninstall firefox; after 
installing the latest nightly update, whenever i selected the tools menu, 
firefox locked up -

sorry i meant tools/options - and then it locks up - i've even reinstalled 
firefox and both problems still exist - www.dabs.com won't come up (along with 
other sites on occasions) and tools/options locks it up

This sounds like either an overwritten programm files directory and/or 
corrupted profile

can you rename both your firefox profile and firefox program directory and 
install Firefox again?

thanks - seems okay now - i can even get www.dabs.com as well! although most
pages still won't open if i set for auto-detect proxy settings - in fact, if i
choose that option, more often than not nothing loads at all and i have to keep
closing/reopening firefox until i get lucky and it connects (one in ten chance)

maybe the auto-detect problem is down to my isp? however, the solution you gave
has helped me get over the non-connect problems and the locking up errors - so
your help has been much appreciated - thanks
