Details

When a you change themes, Firefox the theme won't take effect until firefox is
restarted. However, if you delete the theme you are currently using and then
restart it will revert to default theme rather than the switched theme.

The repeat goto the theme manager.
Change your theme. (Don't restart firefox)
Delete the theme you are still using.
Restart firefox.

Default theme loads rather than the theme you switched to.
I can confirm this behavior.
A similiar one is this:
1. Goto theme manager
2. Change the theme (i.e. from "pinestripe" to "quote")
3. Uninstall an other theme (i.e. "abstract pc")
4. Restart firefox

After restarting firefox the theme is (re)set to pinestripe, and not to quote.
This seems to describe the same issue as bug 271223
