User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 1) We are running 10.3.7 but this has been an issue since 10.3....Clients authenticate off of Active Directory and mount using the home path inside of Active Directory. The home directories are stored on a 2003 server. All other apps work fine except for FireFox, when you launch it, it says to pick or create another profile because default is already in use. I tried making another profile and same problem....I tried forcing already set prefs and also tried prefs from scratch and still wouldn't work. So I took an OS 10.3.6 server and made a share for Home Directories on it and shared it out over AFP and SMB. Then inside of Active Directory I pointed my home path to look at the new home location on the X server. SMB is turned on as the MountStyle for Active Directory using the dsconfigad command line. Still have the same problem when SMB home directories are hosted off of a OS X server. Switched the mountstyle to AFP....logged in and its fine, tried launching Firefox...boom no problem ran fine! Because of this we can't have Roaming profiles on the Macs...we can't use IE because its buggy and doesn't work well anymore....and Safari isn't compatible with all websites and expecially Exchange server logins and other internal websites because everything is designed for Windows. Which is why we chose Firefox because its compatible and works pretty good but its holding us back. Please fix this bug!! Or let me know how to get around it.....I would like to see Firefox be a basic browser like Safari and do away with different profiles...let that **** for Mozilla. 2) Also have seen problems with 1.0 when going to File New Browser Window that it most of the time won't open a new window you have to use the Key combo. 3) Would like to see Kerberos authentication come back....was nice when logging into exchange and stuff if you were already authenticated with Kerberos it auto logged in. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use dsconfigad -localhome disable and dsconfigad -mountstyle smb 2. In Active Directory set your Home path to where you want your home directory for OS X on a Windows or OS X SMB share for your profile 3. Login and Launch FireFox... 4. On an OS X hosting Home Directories change the mountstyle to AFP and try it and it works fine Actual Results: When your home direcotry is stored on an SMB server(Windows or Mac Server) and you launch FireFox 1.0...it says about the Profile already in use...create or choose another one. Tried creating another and still won't work. Expected Results: FireFox should open no matter what protocol is being used for your home directories. Explained pretty everything already Severity for Below: Its critical because we have to use Firefox as our browser and we can't giver our students roaming home directories because it doesn't work when a users Home is being hosted off of SMB shares.

Are you able to use Camino? Is it any better? See Bug 253950 "When the default profile is locked on startup, UI needs to be less confusing" Bug 151188 'Pid-signature on profile lock not unique (was: No option to ignore profile lock), results in "profile is in use" message after crash'
I have been waiting for an updated Camino....I like it because it uses OS X settings set in the Preferences Pane....wish Firefox would also! I don't remember now but when the current release 0.8.2 I think it is now, I tried it and found bugs with it. Wasn't as stable and compatible as Firefox. I am a big firefox fan....everyone around me loved Mozilla but I always stuck by Firefox and look where it is today! Congrats! I think everyone around me now is finally using Firefox! 1) Things I think would be a plus for Firefox would be to make it a basic browser like Safari, do away with the user profiles. 2) Build Kerberos back in 3) Have the OS X version work like Camino and Safari does, by default read the OS X prefs set in the Network Preferences. 3) Just thought of another bug with Firefox....bypass proxy domains does not work. With IE we just always put *.pti.edu and all the network servers were accessed locally without going thru the proxy....Firefox doesn't work. Just tried pti.edu and still no luck. Have to type in a complete address for each site. Thanks, Dan ---------------------------- (In reply to comment #1) > Are you able to use Camino? On Mac OS X, we use the operating system "fctnl" locking mechanism: if this does not work on a particular filesystem, then we cannot "lock" the profile and launch. This is by design.
