option "check for updates" enabled for both firefox and extensions and themes
extensions installed: tabbrowser preferences, tabbrowser extensions

popup "New updates available - click here to view" (appears to be from windows
system tray) 

problem: message popup repeats approx every 5-10 seconds, does not stop
problem: click on pop up - no response

tools>extensions shows indeed one extension, tabbrowser preferences, has an
update available, installs fine

(upgraded FF from 20051118 one day ago)

Even worse, firefox cannot be closed normally after the message pops up. You can
close every browser window, but the popups keeps coming. The only way to shut
down firefox is to end the process.
