When replying to a message, a user preference currently allows the original message to be quoted and inserted into the compose textarea automatically. When several e-mails are traded between two people using the reply feature, several levels of quotes can appear. Consider this scenario: 1. User a, sends a message to user b 2. User b replies 3. User a replies to user b's reply 4. User b sends a final reply to user a. This reply contains quoted text from the messages in steps 1, 2, and 3. At step 4, User b's message has 3 levels of quotes from the previous messages. It seems to be general and accepted practice to return only the most recent quoted message by manually deleting the other levels of quotes which existed in previous replies. This request for enhancement is for a preference to set a numeric limit on the number of levels of quotes inserted in replies. For instance, a limit of 1 would cause the following behavior: at step 4 in this scenario would ensure that only the new text added in step 3 is the only text that is quoted, text quoted from steps 1 and 2 are discarded.

This request is very similar to the functionality provided by the "NestedQuote Remover" extension: http://www.achimonline.de/mozext/nestedquoteremover_about.php. One other suggestion I request in addition to this is the option for zero quote levels--that is, the option to reply without the "> " trailer on each line, which I consider a huge annoyance.

The RealBorders extension at http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/realborders-en.html now includes the option of stripping the > mark in plain text replies. But it only gives the option of level-zero quotes, that is, not quotes at all--which is just what I wanted. Hello, I have come to the same point (Aren't there really no more Bugzilla entries about that?): There are different colored quote levels when reading a mail, which makes it a lot easier. But when replying that same message, it turns into a big unreadable (single-colored) text - no matter who replied to whom. Can't view and edit mode be handled equally?

Hello, is there any possibility to have *different* colors for reply levels in the editor pane - instead of simply blue for all quotes? Or is there at least a corresponding Bugzilla entry? (I'm still with TB 1.5.)
