Can't save outgoing msg - compress folder empty trash

A couple of times a day Thunderbird is unable to save a Sent message. It says I have to compress the Sent folder and empty the trash, which doesn't help for the message in question but seems to prevent the problem from occuring for a while. The only way I can save these messages is to save them as Drafts. I have tons of free disk space but my Sent file is relatively large (98M) and the Sent folder has a sub-folder for archives that is over 500M. A related bug is the popup warnings that accompany this error. They are poorly integrated with the application. I see a couple of warnings about not saving the message interleaved with some warnings about going back to the compose window. If I don't respond exactly right to these I lose the opportunity to save the message and it is lost which can be critical in many cases.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. The work-around for this problem is (in the Copies & Folders properties section) to change the folder for copies of sent messages from "Sent" to "Other" and then specify the same folder. Clearly there is still a bug that has never been addressed but at least there is a work-around.

Reporter, are you still seeing this in either the 1.5 branch or trunk?

(In reply to comment #3) > Reporter, are you still seeing this in either the 1.5 branch or trunk? > Even with the work-around in 1.5.0.2, I will get this error on occaision. I believe I would see more frequently if I went back to the default setting. While I may be the only reporter of this problem, I learned of the work-around in here in a forum where others had encountered it as well.
I'm having this same problem. Emptying the trash and compressing the folder doesn't seem to fix it. This first occurred yesterday and only on my first account. My second account (mdrewery1) works fine. I reinstalled Thunderbird with the same results. This has occurred on every email I've sent since yesterday.

(In reply to comment #2) > The work-around for this problem is (in the Copies & Folders properties > section) > to change the folder for copies of sent messages from "Sent" to "Other" and > then > specify the same folder. comment 2 indicates second issue is easily a dupe to a bug with newer, more detailed info - pretty sure it's already confirmed. need to find the bug#.

Sorry I missed comment #6, but did see #7. I am now running 2.0.0.12 and do not see this problem, though I am no longer saving my sent mail on my local machine but using my IMAP server so it's not quite the same.
If no-one else is seeing this issue, then mark it resolved-worksforme(?). Still seeing this issue in Thunderbird 2, then please try 3.0 beta2: http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/early_releases/downloads/

Could be a dupe of bug #298229?

(In reply to comment #10) > Could be a dupe of bug #298229? perhaps, but thorsten might be gone, we don't have exact error messages, mdrewery address is dead and reporter comment 8 might indicate the problem is gone. (But the workaround in comment 2 is still effective for some - even for me). I just posted in bug 298229 to see if anyone there is still alive. It too is not well defined, but if turns out to be the same type issue and that bug is viable, then I think we should dupe this UNCO to bug 298229, as we've got way to many similar bugs open.
