Bei der Installation von Java (Version: jre-1_5_0-windows-i586.exe und davor)
und auch bei der nachträglichen Eintragung des Mozilla- / Netscapebrowsers über
das Java Control Panel in der Systemsteuerung wird die Mozilla-Installation
nicht erkannt: "Änderung der Browser-Einstellungen nicht möglich - Vergewissern
Sie sich bitte, dass Mozilla bzw. Netscape richtig auf dem System installiert
ist und dass Sie über die Berechtigung zum Ändern von Systemeinstellungen
verfügen" (Mein Account hat Systemadministrator-Berechtigungen)

Seit ich immer wieder Installationsprobleme mit den englischen ausführbaren
Programmen habe, verwende ich nur noch die gezippten deutschsprachigen
Versionen, die ohne Installation starten. Da ich mit Windows-Systemen arbeite,
bei denen nie vorher eine Mozilla-Installation ausgeführt wurde, fehlt
anscheinend die Registry-Eintragung für Java, daß auf dem System Mozilla
installiert ist.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Installiere Windows 2000 (Servicepack 4) neu
2. Installation von Java
3. Entpacken der deutschsprachigen Mozilla-Version auf C:\Programme\mozilla.org
4. Start von Mozilla 
5. Start des Java Control Panel in der Systemsteuerung
6. Reiter "Erweitert" -> <APPLET>-Tag-Unterstützung
7. Häkchen vor "Mozilla und Netscape" setzen
8. Taste "Anwenden" drücken

Actual Results:  
Ergebnis: die oben genannte Warnung / Fehlermeldung (nur der Internet Explorer
wurde von Java erkannt und wird damit auch unterstützt)

Expected Results:  
Erkennen der Mozilla-Installation durch das Java Control Panel, um die volle
Java-Unterstützung für den Mozilla-Browser zu erhalten

This should not only affect the localized build. It is a known problem, see
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/java.html#Win32 (German:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/de-DE/faqs/java.html#Win32).

It should be fixed, see Bug 223238. Could you please check if the registry key
exist?

Yes, the registry key exists. And the bug is also in version
mozilla-1.8a6.de-AT.win32.zip. 

Similar problems I have when I want to install flashplayer7installer.exe and
shockwaveinstaller.exe.

Could you try with an english version from mozilla.org as well (just to test this)?

The German version should act identically to the en-US one, as it contains
exactly the same binary files, only the L10n parts changed.

First I installed mozilla-win32-1.8a6_engl.zip und run Mozilla browser + mail,
but the same Java error appeared (Hardcopies 1 + 2). 
Then I installed mozilla-win32-1.8a6-installer_engl.exe und run this version.
The error didn't appear. 
After this I deleted the English Mozilla and run the German from
mozilla-1.8a6.de-AT.win32.zip. The error was gone. 
When you look at the hardcopies  1 - 12 (after installing the English
Mozilla-exe) you can see the differences in the registry.

So this is a dupe, but Java seems to need something that we don't set :(

Would be nice to know what Java really needs from us to run correctly.
