"Unpack the archive and run 'thunderbird' -- and not even tell the poor schmuck I should 'cd to the extracted 'thunderbird' directory and run "./thunderbird' ANYWAY, I plowed ahead and it worked until I tried to get the installation into the 'normal' place: '/opt/thunderbird_<version>' with a symlink from /usr/bin/thunderbird. If set up that way, all my "users" - me with various hats - can use it. DIDN't WORK. SO, I fixed it by jiggering the scripts. BUT I still get a problem because I don't fully grok XLib yet. I get "cannot open connection to display..." XLib XDM (something)_ID matches an existing client when I try running from a different account than where I installed from (root). FIRST: MAY I POST HERE MY SCRIPT CHANGES -- I don't yet have a development environment set up to let me do a proper patch script. SECOND: Can someone de-mystify the XDM issue above. THIRD: May I post a suggested Installation instruction for Linux, again without being able to do a 'proper' patch script? A further question: the scripts refer to a library directory '/usr/local/(something)_0.6+' -- it doesn't exist. Should the installation move something there?? Reproducible: Always

which "published" installation instructions are you referring to? you should 1) log in as a normal user 2) run /usr/bin/thunderbird (or /opt/..., whatever) that should be it. You can install as root, but you should be logged in and run thunderbird as a normal user. not installer. dumping in help/docs

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter.
