User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
When browsing just about any URL for an extended period - even this very page -
if I focus on other tasks (such as email) for a while, then re-focus onto
FireFox, the page locks up as if it's trying to re-draw, then generates a crash.
Unfortunately our company firewall settings are such that the Mozilla Quality
Feedback agent can't talk through the firewall.
It puts up an application error that I haven't managed (or remembered) to catch yet.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a page - any page will do.
2.Perform other tasks on the PC for a while.
3.Bring FireFox into focus - click on the titlebar, alt-tab to it, click on part
of the page, whatever.
Actual Results:
Empty Windows frame displayed, then a crash notification.
Expected Results:
Displayed the page.
Running the default themee.
I've loaded a few extensions as well. Quite a few, in fact.
I've also re-installed FireFox, but I haven't had time to see whether it crashes.

Firefox has just crashed - without me even trying to re-focus on it - while I
was editing some photos. This is a screenshot of the crash notification.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Still crashes in 1.0.5 whether focussing away or not. Can sometimes crash
while actively viewing just one page. I have a lot of extensions installed -
perhaps it's one of those. I also have the Quality Agent enabled, but my
company's firewall blocks it.
Whiteboard: Acually crashes seemingly at random whether focussing away or not - up to 1.0.5.

Still crashes with 1.0.7
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/20051013
Firefox/1.4.1
WFM. Can you test with 1.5beta2, with a new profile and in safe mode. This
eliminates the possibilty of dodgy extension, and also matters which have been
fixed in the (long) period since the code of 1.0.7 was released.

Also true in Mac OS X. When switching away from Firefox to another open application, Firefox will often crash.

Reporter, if this still crashes, please send the talkback incident report and post the ID you get here. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talkback

Nick, Adam - can he provide TB data somehow, given his firewall block (comment 4)?
mark1215, Geoff - does this happen in safe mode? with FF 1.5?

Oh, sorry, didn't notice that. Guess no talkback ids then.

Actually, it looks like our fiewall may have been opened up a shade recently. Even so, since I haven't seen the crash for a while, I don't have a TB ID for you.

I need urgetnt help. For some reason, Bugzilla has assigned my password to me as my user ID which gets used when I receive a reply from Bugzilla. I have to be honest here. This is urgent. I want my User and ID deleted from the database and removed from Bugzilla. Again, when I receive emails from Bugzilla, my User ID PASSWORD is included in the email as if my PASSWORD were my USER ID, which it is not.
I really do appreciate the amazing amount of energy donated, free, to the Mozilla projects, but user names and passwords are NOT being protected, and frankly, Firefox has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. PLEASE delete my account. THANK YOU.

Fixed. Firefox was constantly crashing on several sites using Java. Since Apple updated Mac OS X Java to J2SE last week, no more crashes. I regret posting this here, in a Windows bug report, but it seemed related to a complete Firefox crash. Thanks for your concern.

It does that now, with 1.5.0.5.
