RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 259006

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

Some websites spread themselves over several hostnames within their own domain
(I'm thinking of sites like eBay -- the UK version has dozens of mini sites
within the .ebay.co.uk domain). As an alternative to specifying whether these
cookies should be accepted, accepted for session or blocked on a host by host
basis it would be useful to be able to enter the address *.ebay.co.uk in the
exclusions dialog and have it honoured by the cookie sub-system. Obviously, the
existing way of specifying the exact hostname would have to still work as now,
and if both host.ebay.co.uk and *.ebay.co.uk were specified with conflicting
settings I'd expect the more specific one to take precedence over the wildcard.

The use of ebay.co.uk is just an example, there are many other examples (include
many of the advert tracker sites) that would fall into this enhancment.
Allowing uses to better control their cookie settings with fewer individual
configurations being required.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual Results:
Currently, the preferences accepts cookie exclusions with wildcards, but does
not appear to honour them.

Expected Results:
Setting *.ebay.co.uk would allow or deny cookies across all sites within the domain.
Setting listings.ebay.co.uk would allow the user to overide the more general
settings above.
use ebay.co.uk, not *.ebay.co.uk and you're fine. Waiting on the new cookie
manager before I look at what we can do to improve this.
