User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20050103 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20050103 This problem has been around for years. I've long been trying to encourage more users to utilise mozilla's composer within our university but this bug always gets brought up as a reason to not use it. I just did a bug search and couldn't find it so I'm putting it in. When cutting and pasting between documents (which are both open in composer) .. unless you are careful (and even when doing this a crash rarely happens) when copying bulleted sections you will crash mozilla. I'll attach two files.. one is the template that I'm converting some documents into and if you try and open both files in composer and then cut and paste from one document into the other one then you will inevitably cause a crash (unless you cut and paste a line at a time but this very rarely causes a crash too). I've tried making a simpler example to reproduce the crash but when I make a simple indented bullet list and cut and paste between them it doesn't crash. It seems to know when I am about to save and then crash to thwart me. :) I've lost a number of hours worth of work as a result.. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. open blank.html 2. open benchmarking.html 3. try and cut and paste the content in benchmarking.html into the new template as defined in blank.html .. if you're not lucky with the bullet point cut and pastes you'll get a crash. Actual Results: I tried to be more careful. But it still crashes. I sometimes can get through a whole conversion without a crash but more often than note it will crash. Expected Results: cut and paste without crashing We've used composer for meeting minutes for years now and this bug has been there for as long as we can remember.

If you try and copy the last three bullets at the bottom of the benchmarking attachment to the bottom of the bullets in the blank template I always get a crash.

> When cutting and pasting between documents (which are both open in composer) Cutting and pasting whole documents or just document fragments? What are you cutting and pasting exactly? Which document nodes are you cutting and pasting? How are you cutting and pasting? From which editing mode to which editing mode are you cutting and pasting? > unless you are careful (and even when doing this a crash rarely happens) when > copying bulleted sections you will crash mozilla. Copying or cutting? > I'll attach two files.. one is the template that I'm converting some documents > into and if you try and open both files in composer and then cut and paste from > one document into the other one then you will inevitably cause a crash (unless > you cut and paste a line at a time but this very rarely causes a crash too). Have you tried to select the whole document with Edit/Select All Ctrl+A? > I've tried making a simpler example to reproduce the crash but when I make a > simple indented bullet list and cut and paste between them it doesn't crash. You have 4 lists of 4, 2, 6 and 5 items each and 2 of these with nested lists in attachment 172241 [details] (Benchmarking document). If a simple bulleted list is the cause/source of the crash, then there is no need to provide 4 lists and 2 lists with nested lists. What is a Simplified Test Case, and How Do I Make One? http://www.mozilla.org/newlayout/bugathon.html#testcase > Reproducible: Sometimes > > Steps to Reproduce: > 1. open blank.html > 2. open benchmarking.html > 3. try and cut and paste the content in benchmarking.html into the new template > as defined in blank.html .. if you're not lucky with the bullet point cut and > pastes you'll get a crash. I followed your steps to reproduce as written and I did not crash. Which build version and number are you using? How do you do cut and paste? Can you give more explicit steps to reproduce? I'm using Mozilla 1.8b build 2005012606 under XP Pro SP2.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-GB; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050318 I tried coping the whole document with Ctrl+A, selected via the mouse, and various shorter bulleted sections selected by mouse, and no crash occurred.

No response. No reply. Travis, if you can provide specifics and a *_reduced_* testcase where the bug happens in a recent build, please reopen this bug. Resolving as WORKSFORME
