User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Mozilla (and Firefox) crash when viewing www.abcnews.com. Both mozilla and firefox are configured to block pop-ups. However, on mozilla (1.7.5 linux) a pop-up window flashes momentarily, then disappears; and mozilla puts up a dialog stating (essentially): 216.133.230.175 A site sent an incorrect or unexpected message. Error Code: -12281. Then, mozilla hangs, won't repaint, won't close - needs kill to terminate it. The same problem happens with FireFox 1.0, except that the momentary pop-up doesn't appear. The problem has not been reproducible in windows mozilla 1.7.5. This message is being generated by one of their ad partners, (doubleclick-type company); and I suspect it is an attempt to get around pop-up blocking. (But that's just a guess). Perhaps by the time someone looks into this problem, the web site will no longer be generating a malformed message; so it may not be possible to reproduce this problem. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.browse to www.abcnews.com 2.wait ... Actual Results: A pop-up window flashes momentarily, then disappears; and mozilla puts up a dialog stating (essentially): 216.133.230.175 A site sent an incorrect or unexpected message. Error Code: -12281. Then, mozilla hangs, won't repaint, won't close - needs kill to terminate it. Expected Results: Shouldn't hang. Should gracefully respond to OK on the dialog, dismiss the dialog, and ignore the incorrect or unexpected window. System info: RedHat 7.3 RH 2.4.21-27.0.2 kernel (has happened with stock 7.3 final 2.4.20 kernel). RH glibc 2.3.2-95.30 P4-3.0 GHz, UP (not SMP - Intel MB doesn't support HT!) 1 GB RAM

Follow-up - problem likely found. As near as I can tell, it only happens with Macromedia Flash 7.0.25.0. I've backed up to Flash 6 -- problem's gone. Other configuration information: Java JDK 1.5.0_01 - using symlink to its JRE plug-in (/usr/java/jre/plugin/...) Acrobat Reader 5.0.10 - using symlink to its plugin (.../Browsers/plugin/...) Macromedia Flash 7.0.25.0 - copied .so and .xpt to mozilla plugin dir

Two more notes: I've confirmed this problem occurs with ONLY the Flash 7 plug-in (and the mozilla default plug-in) installed, and DOES NOT occur with Flash 6 plug-in; whether or not Java or Acrobat plug-ins are present. Also, am using the java ns7, NOT ns7-gcc29 plugin.

Please report this to Macromedia -- it siounds like a Flash bug.

It was reported to Macromedia the day of my previous comment. I'm pretty certain that it is a Flash bug. Hopefully they'll look into it and fix it. If not -- well, I haven't seen it since I rolled back to Flash 6. If anyone else encounters similar problems with Flash 7, there appears to be a viable workaround.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter.
