if i check for new mail, i always have several new messages in my junk folder,
even if my mail server doesn't appear to have sent mail.
the sender and subject are always empty and the date is always 31/12/1969 4:00pm
if i delete them by clicking on the junk button they disappear and go to the
deleted folder but the junk headinfg on the left shows 1 unread message and is bold.
if i select the first one and hold the shift key then click the junk button they
disappear and the junk heading on the left isshows no new messages.
i can change t to any folder and back to junk and there are then several
unopened messages inwith no subjects or senders, dated in 1969....
i can attach the .eml file if you like?
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.click on junk selection on left column ( delete any messages in folder)
2.click on inbox or any other folder
3.click in junk folder
Actual Results:
several new messages without collecting mail with no subject or sender dated 1996
Expected Results:
not had any new mail in junk folder mail

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Same here...
I have deleted all junk mails and compacted the junk folder yesterday, so this
can't be a data structure error produced by older versions of thunderbird
(using 1.5 beta 2 now)

Well, the picture says more than my words...
You really should work on those bugs first, before put more and more features
into Thunderbird... Well, the junk-mails I get could be in a very rough and
manipulated format, because my own mailserver doesn't change/delete any of
them. Maybe most of the users don't get such mails and therefore also no bugs.
But isn't it the goal of a client to stay consistent and work properly / show
all messages even a bad junk sender sends mail data that can mess up your
inbox?

Related to Core bug 209501 and/or bug 325001?
I have experienced exactly the same thing. If you delete the "ghost" message enough times, it shows up as a real message that you can permanently delete. When it shows up in my junk folder, it shows 12/31/1969 5:00 PM. When you delete the message, it reappears as soon as you go back to the junk folder.
