Firefox randomly changes from displaying each tabbed window full width across
the browser window to displaying each tabbed window side by side within the
browser window.  We have been unable to find any setting that will restore the
display to the default mode.  If we kill the instance of Firefox and restart it,
the tabs display normally, but at some later time, may or may not suddenly shift
to the side-by-side tiled mode.

We could not find an option to implement the tiled, side-by-side mode or to turn
it off.

We have almost abandoned the use of Firefox because of this problem which has
occurred on two different computers.

There's no way this should be happening, at least not without the use of
extensions.  The browser code simply doesn't support MDI-style tiling.  There is
nothing in the core code that could do this.  Unless you're somehow opening
links in a very wide sidebar...  I don't suppose you have a screenshot of this?
