I just installed Thunderbird. When trying to set things up, I tried to import
my address book from Eudora. The import failed claiming that there was no such
address book even though I know it is there.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Select Tools/import
2.Select address book
3. Select Eudora from the list
4. Select next
Actual Results:
"Address successfully imported from Eudora"
"No address books were found to import"

Expected Results:
Put my Eudora addess book into my Thunderbird address list.

Don't know what to say.

I also am having this problem but Thunderbird may not know where my NNdbase.*
files live as they are not in their default locations but on my Drive I. I tried
copying them to C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora but that does not work either.
Windows 2000 Pro, Thunderbird 1.0.2, Eudora 6.2.1.2.

what is the full directory path address of your eudora address book?
from comment 1, files are "not in their default locations but on my Drive I:"

Summary: I tried to import my Eudora address book. It failed, reporting that the address book doesn't exist when I know it does. → import Eudora address book failed "No address books were found to import" but I know it exists
Version: unspecified → 1.0
QA Contact: address-book
Solution - import needs to look for nndbase.nnt and use it if it exists. "No address books were found to import" is given when a eudora directory is *found* with data (presumably with a eudora.ini file), but an address book (what eudora calls a nickname file) - in this case nndbase.txt - is not found.

* from http://eudorabb.qualcomm.com/showthread.php?t=2701
"nndbase.txt may be disguised as nndbase.nnt when you have that enabled in Tools -> Options -> Miscellaneous -> Hide address books from simple viruses."

* from  http://eudorabb.qualcomm.com/showthread.php?p=10983
"Addressbook files are in your Data directory....
nndbase.nnt (nndbase.txt in version 6.1 and earlier)"

I tested
  Options -> Miscellaneous -> Hide address books from simple viruses
which in fact renamed nndbase.txt to nndbase.nnt.

A more correct correct solution might be to check for any nndbase file with any extension - I don't see any specs except this...
* from  http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/1602hq.html
"Address Books: Any files with the name "nndbase" *(regardless of file extension)* is your main Eudora Nicknames address book (and If there are any files in the "Nickname" folder, copy or move this entire folder.)"

http://bonsai.mozilla.org/cvsblame.cgi?file=/mozilla/mailnews/import/eudora/src/nsEudoraWin32.cpp&rev=1.45&mark=1204-1214#1202 would be the bit of code we have to fix (though it may be worth waiting until David's done the ns(I)FileSpec->nsIFile.

Also moving to Core/ Mailnews Import as that is where the bug is.

My config : Win XP Pro + Eudora 7.1.0.9 + TB 1.5.0.10.
I tried to import my address book from Eudora to TB without success. I tested
the "Options -> Miscellaneous -> Hide address books from simple viruses" too.
In fact when i choose adress, then Eudora and click on next, i have a new window to select my eudora directory, and even if i select the right directory, nothing happen.
please list the filenames in that directory that match nndbase.___
NNdbase.toc
NNdbase.txt (i tried with nnt and txt by changing option in eudora)
"Can not import empty address book"
Neither NNdbase.txt nor the 9 additional address books in Nickname will Import from Eudora 7. (Entire userdata directory copied over from another computer.
It read the INI file, as all my accounts and folders are there.
Believ me, these address books are NOT empty (notepad confirms) :?
On Windows, another possible reason seems to be a missing Eudora registry key giving the path to address books. Just came across this recent post detailing the problem and a possible solution: http://alma.ch/blogs/bahut/2007/09/importing-eudora-address-books-into.html
It seems TB requires a registry key. If it doesn't find it, it gives a folder selection dialog, but completely ignores the input given.
Geoffrey fixed comment 6 in bug 368634

I'm not sure what code needs to be corrected for "If it doesn't find it, it gives a folder selection dialog, but completely ignores the input given." but the registry code is here http://bonsai.mozilla.org/cvsblame.cgi?file=/mozilla/mailnews/import/eudora/src/nsEudoraWin32.cpp&mark=109-173#102

perhaps someone, Geoffrey, can develop a fix from this info?

bug 142537 and bug 82481 might also need to be addressed.
Summary: import Eudora address book failed "No address books were found to import" but I know it exists, filename might be nndbase.nnt → import Eudora address book failed "No address books were found to import" or "Can't import empty address book" but I know it exists, filename might be nndbase.nnt

Original bug and early discussion was a duplicate of bug 368634 (as WSMwk referenced). Recent discussion referred to a separate still valid issue for which I created a new bug - bug 395808.
