User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Whilst downloading multiple files from the above site, the pagefile use in Windows Task Manager creeps up (more noticeable when downloading the larger files) an and the processor load becomes very heavy. When the downloads are finished, processor activity drops but the Page File usage is still high and is not released until Firefox is closed. First noticed this when the machine ground to a complete standstill after having downloaded 20 or so files. Page file usage on my machine normally around 140Mb, now sitting at 271Mb after more downloads. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Firefox and also have Windows Task Manager open showing the performance tab. 2. Go to above URL (or indeed any repository of large files) 3. Double click on the file wanted and start to download to chosen directory on HDD 4. Repeat step 3, with the aim of downloading all the files in the remote directory onto HDD. I almost continually had 4 files downloading simultaneously. Actual Results: Very heavy processor usage and page file usage crept up until machine eventually crashed. When repeated, same thing happens but I stopped when Page File Usage got to 271Mb so that I could observe behaviour. Page file still not released after 30 minutes. Expected Results: Not hammered the Page File quite as much and should have released Page File when downloads finished. P4 2.8Ghz running on an Intel 845 based motherboard. 256Mb PC133 RAM. Windows XP SP2 Internet connection is across a LAN. 2Meg ADSL via a Microsoft ISA proxy server.
Problem stops happening if you click Clean Up. List of downloaded software was very long. Have started doing downloads again and the Page File problem is much slower in happening. Surely the download manager shouldn't do this?
