I just started up Firefox, and all my bookmarks are gone (even the actual
bookmarks.html is restored to the default), and all my saved passwords (which
were protected with a master password) and history is gone. My custom formatting
where I only keep the menu bar and address bar was gone and replaced with the
default look and feel. The only thing remaining is my default home page (which
was set to Google).

I didn't install or un-install any new application or reboot or anything. All I
did was lock my computer and go for lunch, before which it was working as normal.

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Cannot repro. This is extremely erratic behaviour.

Actual Results:  
No repro.

Expected Results:  
Should not have lost all customized information.

Software should retain all of a user's information. Valuable information like
this suddenly disappearing out of the blue destroys the product's credibility.

Ok, I just figured it out.

I have two profiles on Firefox - default and remoteuser. The former
has all my information.

I had Remote Desktop'ed to my machine from my laptop and bought up
Firefox. I then closed it when I was done, but I did not log out of
remote desktop.

When I got to my desk, I did some work with Firefox where my bookmarks
were still there. When I closed it and opened it again after lunch, it
was using the 'remoteuser' profile for some reason, even though I had
closed the browser on the other session. I logged out of that session on my
laptop and then tried again, and it loaded with my default profile.

Mystery solved.
