When grouping messages, group name is at the subject's column, even if the first
column is other.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open main window.
2. Go to folder that contains letters.
3. Change column order - put Sender before Subject.
4. Order messages by date (or any other column).
5. Group messages (by sorted column).
Actual Results:
Groups appear. Their labels are located at the Subject's column

Expected Results:
Groups appear. Their labels are located at the first column (might be merging
all columns)
This is closely related to placement of icons in the "Subject" column (i.e. bug
227928). Is it a separate issue, so would splitting up status and subject also
solve this?
By the way, I assume by "group" you mean thread.

bug 227928)

No, this is completely OTHER bug. In bug 227928 subject is about an icon. Here
we are talking about grouping.

And, as for comment #2 - i have localized version, so i cannot say exact name of
that. Maybe thread is more correct word.
What I meant is that the graphics for threading "goes with" that for the status
of the message. So altering where the status shows up (into its own column)
will mean changing the threading/grouping as well.

> By the way, I assume by "group" you mean thread.

You assume incorrectly. Grouping is a new feature, similar to but not identical
to threading, and has a different display mode which features "headers"
displayed within the thread pane.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Just to add a bit of info for those who haven't used grouping, it is on the
View-Sort By menu, or has the keyboard shortcut "G".

Indeed the same as the wontfixed bug 227928. No reason was given for the WONTFIX.

An interesting problem, but I don't see a compelling UI improvement or use case. But others may, especially in the new UI world
Summary: Place group header labels flush left, not under Subject column → Place group header widget/icon flush left, not under Subject column
I'm not really sure what the reasons are for this. I'd guess it's technical.

But in reality I can't see this as something I'd push for. The existing system works well enough and the benefits of improvement here are likely outweighed by the difficulty of change.
=> wontfix then by precedent and comment 11, and since no patch in 4 years time
