User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 When you open www.lebed.com, the window is supposed to have a Russian title Независимый альманах "Лебедь" It reads instead: ??????????? ???????? "??????" The same happens with any Russian-language site. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open www.lebed.com or www.izvestia.ru or any other non-Latin site. 2. Look at the window's title bar. 3. Enjoy! Actual Results: All non-Latin characters in the window title are replaced with question marks Expected Results: Any foreign characters should be presented correctly in the window's title.
This is WFM on WinXP. This could be an OS-related issue, rather than FF.
Summary: Firefox window's non-English title is presented as a set of question marks → Firefox window's non-English title is presented as a set of question marks
Work fine under win2k too. Are you sure Russian font support is installed in your win98?
Unless you have a Russian Windows 9x/ME, you can't get Cyrillic letters in the window title bar or similar places that are under the control of the OS (as opposed to Mozilla). There's nothing we can do (well, we could have rolled our own windowing system....). That's the limitation of the OS (Win 9x/ME). MS IE on Win 9x/ME has exactly the same problem. Note that Win 2k/XP are totally different from Win 9x/ME in this respect. The best you can do is to move on to Win 2k/XP.
