my thunderbird always hangs just after connecting

I found a second smtp server with the same dns menmonic name. Changed the
account there and set it to the default and then it worked (see that etheral
dump for comparison)

Then check your account's SMTP choice(Server Settings/Advance) and SMTP
definitions (Outgoing Server/Advanced).

 same name is displayed for them in SMTP list.
