The cyworld is the Korea's one of the most popular website. If the Firefox can't
be used to access the web site, then Koreans don't use the Firefox. It is that
important web site.

OK. Here we have the problem. The Windows media player plugin, whether it is on
Windows and Mac, can't play the background music.
If you visit the URL, http://cyworld.com/mshong, you can see an CD icon and it
means that it has background music, and it is supposed to be played automatically.

The script for the bg music is :

<input type="text" name="load_ck" value="0">
<input type="text" name="load_ck2" value="0">

	<HTML>

Korea is called the republic of the Microsoft. The one of the main reason people
don't use other browser than the IE, and other OS than Windows, is due to the
cyworld, internet banking, TV broadcasting.

I think the Cyworld and TV broadcasting things can be solved by the
Firefox/Mozilla team. If you enable the Windows Media player plugin as well as
that for the Windows version of IE, then it is solved.

So, this problem is that important.
I understand that many people posted bugs on the Windows Media Player plugin.
So, this problem may be related to those bug reports.

Probably this is MS's fault, but I don't think MS announce any decent plugin for
web browsers other than the IE. So, you guys should solve it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. visit http://cyworld.com/mshong
2. ( Please don't overuse the URL. It is a personal Homepi ( a cute name for
home page. )
3. Check if the bg music is played.

Actual Results:
No music.

Expected Results:
Music being played.
Apparently http://cyworld.com/mshong has moved or something. Can you provide
another page?
No. It is not moved.

Did you use pop-up blocker?

> No. It is not moved.

Oh I see you mean

http://minihp.cyworld.nate.com/pims/main/pims_main4.asp?tid=22890226&domain=&cast=&dpop=&productseq=&gift_preview=&thema=&codi=&preview_effect=&preview_effect_cd=&seq=&urlstr=&urlstrsub=&send_seq=&back=&item_seq=&act=&Nyearmon=&board_no=&choco=&product_type=&effect_menu_sel=&preview_news=&mana_type=

right?
The problem is, it doesn't play music even with IE6.
With Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050602
Firefox/1.0+ it stops at

function play() {
	top.backmusic.location.href="/pims/main/pims_backmusic.asp?tid=22890226&load_ck=1";
}

by the error "Error: top.backmusic has no properties".
Yes. it is the correct one.

And it thus plays music.

If the window is opened, can't you hear music played?

It works with my IE 6.

Please be aware of this. The reason I reported problem is that the Firefox can't play the bg music on
cyworld web sites usually.
It is not the page specific problem. Most sites with WMP music on them have problems with the Firefox.

This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.

While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.

If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.

i have the same issue with a site that will not play the background music file
on firefox 1.0.7 but it plays fine in internet explorer6. here is the site
http://pages.prodigy.net/mdd/LostAndBroken/WCTBT.html
thanks
probably a plugin problem?
Reporter: Are you a representative of the Cyberworld technical team? Otherwise this should probably be moved to evangelism.

There are so many issues with this script, I don't know where to begin. Suggestion: Use Flash 7 instead of WMP sound. WMP is very buggy when it comes to browser bindings, even for IE. If you use WMP with Firefox, you won't have scripting abilities for the average user, because Microsoft hasn't updated their WMP plugin code in a long time.

* One important thing to know about Firefox is that unless the Gecko ActiveX plugin (http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/control.htm) is installed, you can't script Windows Media Player because Microsoft hasn't updated their plugin code and it relies on antiquated NS4 methods. Secondly, to script WMP >= 7, you need to set the classID in the object tag to use the 6BF52A52-394A-11D3-B153-00C04F79FAA6

* If ActiveX plugin isn't installed (isn't for most people), show/hide the Windows Media player using obj.style.display="hidden" instead of controls.play()/controls.stop(), which will cause it to not play while it's hidden, and play while it's visible. Suggestion: Use Flash 7 for sound

* I doubt this will work <SCRIPT FOR='Player' EVENT='PlayStateChange(lOldState, lNewState)'
LANGUAGE='JScript'>. Try using addEventListener instead (but I doubt that will even work without ActiveX plugin installed).

* I doubt stuff like this will work without ActiveX either obj.GetMediaInfoString(8)

Is this still an issue ?
I'm sorry that I didn't check this bug for long time.
Actually I have not reported any Firefox bugs or checked for long time.
I think we can close this.
