User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 1.0 (20041206) of linux If i open a mail from my sent items window, and if want to create a template from it, thunderbird fails. Clicking on the menu item file, save as, template just closes the menu. it does not create the template. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open a sent mail, from you sent items 2.Click file, click save as, click Template 3.Notice you did not get a new template as expected. Actual Results: Nothing, menu closed, tried again to no avail. Expected Results: Created the template, just like it does when i type a new message and save it as a template. I run linux, and have 3 seperate mailboxes. Creating templates from new messages works fine for a three accounts. (altough the gmail pop box places its templates in the local templates folder)

I can confirm this happens on Slackware 10.1 running shared folders on courier-imap-3.0.3. We cannot save drafts, templates or sent messages on the shared folders. I highly recommend giving this task higher priority as this is one of the features that will make Thunderbird more acceptable as a corporate mail solution. And this is what we all want :)

Is this because the templates folder for this account doesn't yet exist on the server? In my tests, this works fine except for the case where you do file | save as |template while reading a message and the templates folder doesn't exist. If you do file | save as template from the compose window, the templates folder gets created and then file | save as template works in both cases.

No i don;t think so, I use Gmail, (trough pop/smtp) and my own mail server (pop/smtp) It works on the first account (own server) but there is no template dir on my server nor is it created. I have 3 accounts. Own default address <- normal first account in thunderbird. gmail <- normal seccond account in thunderbird. own support address. <- places incomming mail infirst account in thunderbird. Send items for both the gmail and "own support address" are placed in the local send items box. If i however try to save a send item as a template (because i want to send it more often, it fails) I guess since i selected the mail from the local folder, it should also place the template in the local folders template dir.

I mean whether or not the template folder that the account is set to save to
exists, not the template folder on the particular server in question. If it
works on the first account, it must be saving it to a templates folder in a
different account, for it to work, by definition...
But in any case, you're saving as template in the local folders account. And
there's no templates folder defined for the local folders account, so I can see
why it fails...so I think there are two bugs here. I'm not sure what templates
folder we should use for the local folders account. We don't have a UI for
defining the templates folder for the local folders account. We could just use
the local folders templates folder, or we could figure it out from the message.Assignee: mscott → bienvenu

I can confirm it for the compose window too. I have an IMAP-Count and I defined drafts & templates to store in local folders. Composing a new message and selecting store/template does not create the template folder. Nothing happens. We are a public administration and waiting for this fix before we can bring it out for 7,000 users. ______________________________ TB 1.0.2 under WindowsNT Sp 6a

Confirmed on 20050711 mac branch and trunk. STR - 1. Select message in inbox 2. File->Save As->Template Result: nothing happens Saving a message as a template works when you do the save from compose, but fails when you do the save in the three-pane window.

I confirm the bug it's related to shared folders. I have the same problem using Thunderbird 1.0.5 on Cyrus IMAP. Templates folder was created on server and it does have full rights. The problem it's 100% in Thunderbird. Steps to reproduce: Set the template folder to an shared IMAP folder (Accounts). Then create a message and save it as a template. Thunderbird will enter in a loop of saving message: Small popup window: Title: Saving Messages Status: Copying message to Templates folder... Progress: (moving bar)

I think this is fixed on the trunk. Have you tried a 1.1a build? ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/1.1a1 1.1a2 is coming out very soon as well, so you could try that. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 244289 ***
