User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Firefox shuts down when trying to open the www.dslrexchange.com homepage. The problem does not occur when trying to open a subpage, such as www.dslrexchange.com/forum. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Type www.dslrexchange.com on the address bar 2. Press Enter 3. Actual Results: Firefox closes, sometimes immediately, sometimes after showing the page for a fraction of a second. No error messages are given. Expected Results: Firefox should have opened the page or reported an error. The same problem occurs when IE tries to open this page.
Oops... the subpage URL should be http://www.dslrexchange.com/forums/
no crash here: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050201 Firefox/1.0+
no crash here. reporter, can you post a talkback id or something?
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050203 Firefox/1.0+ No crash on either of the URLs given. WFM
Tried it again and the problem is still there (only for www.dslrexchange.com). I use Firefox a lot and have not encountered any such problem with any other website. There's no Talkback ID as Firefox does not report any errors and neither does XP. Firefox just closes (all tabs, but not other Firefox windows). If I click on the link in this bug report, the dslrexchange homepage will open a new tab without closing Firefox. Once I activate the tab, however, Firefox closes. I have not visited the dslrexchange homepage before, so I do not what happened in the past. Perhaps the error is related to one of the extensions that I use: FlashGot, ieview, Print Preview, Disable Targets For Downloads, Adblock, FirefoxView, Favorites Converter (export), OpenBook, Sage, Download Manager Tweak, Tabbrowser Preferences, Copy Plain Text, Linkification, CuteMenus, Forecastfox, OpenNewWindowFromHere, Enhanced History Manager, Linky.
Frank, can you try with a clean profile [make a new profile using the profile manager] and try to narrow the problem down. Also, for next bug report, it may help if you mention that you've got all these extensions and possibly themes installed.
WFM Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 too. Probably extensions-related.

As per your suggestions I disabled all extensions. The problem was still there, however. Then I deleted my entire profile and created a new one. All extensions, themes and other user settings were gone, but the problem was not. After typing www.dslrexchange.com in the address bar, Firefox closes the active window. I also tried different settings for Matrox PowerDesk, which causes some programs to crash. This can be avoided by disabling it for any application that it is incompatible with. But unfortunately, disabling it for Firefox does not resolve the issue either. If you have any new suggestions that may help us localize the cause of this problem, let me know.
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050205 Firefox/1.0+ Still WFM. What is meant by "The same problem occurs when IE tries to open this page."? Could you be running some sort of malware??? Are you able to try with a brand new install of Windows NT 5.1 ...
IE will give exactly the same response: close immediately. As far as I can tell, there is no "malware". Firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware programs all report a clean system. In my opinion there are two options: 1. Either there is something wrong with my system. This is possible, but not necessarily true. I have been and am using my system intensively for browsing the Internet and have not run into this problem or anything like it with any (!) other web page. 2. Or there is something funny on this particular web page, which triggers something through Firefox or IE that causes Firefox's or IE's active window only to crash. Firefox should never shut down quietly, however, but report an error if something is wrong.
I resolve www.dslrexchange.com to 63.105.26.35 , Do you agree? Can you download the HTML with, say, curl? If so, can you load just the HTML without a crash? Could it be a flash or Java problem? Or a bogus image - some of the gifs are 0 by 0 pixels; some of the jpgs are sent as type text/html
Ben, I downloaded http://www.dslrexchange.com/index.htm only, cleared Firefox and IE's caches, instructed my firewall to stop all internet activity and opened the downloaded file. Again, both Firefox and IE close while opening the file. Unfortunately I do not know enough about either Java or Flash to make any comment on that.

If I read that correctly, you have file which when loaded from your local disk is (more or less) guaranteed to crash Firefox. Could I trouble you to attach it to this bug. I am sure that someone will be very interested in diagnosising the problem.
The attachment contains the requested HTML source of the www.dslrexchange.com homepage which closes the active window of Firefox. If all internet activities are blocked by the Firewall and the cache of Firefox is clear, this will happen after a short delay of about one second. The HTML file was retrieved with a download manager. Only the file in the attachment was downloaded, no other files (images etc.).
In response to Ben's suggestion, I would like to add that the version of Java that Firefox installed on my system is Sun Java 2 Platform Standard Edition, version 1.5.0, build 1.5.0-b64. According to the plug-in's update service, this is the current version.

No crash for me There are 113 validation errors. Is there sort of self.close( ) in the javascript? Does the close behaviour occur if you disable javascript
Ben, after disabling JavaScript in Firefox, stopping all internet activity, and clearing the cache of Firefox, the problem is still there. And also if Java is disabled too in Firefox.

There's no Talkback ID as Firefox does not report any errors and > neither does XP. Firefox just closes (all tabs, but not other Firefox > windows). Can we revisit this part again? When Firefox closes all tabs, do you still have the Firefox menus? Can you open a new Window? (Or do you have to restart Firefox).
I just opened two Firefox windows, each with multiple tabs, closed the firewall, disabled Java and JavaScript, and cleared the cache of Firefox. Then I tried to open the htm file that is attached with this report. Again, after a delay of about one second, it fully closed the window (including all its tabs) of Firefox that is was being opened into. The other Firefox window was unaffected, including all its tabs.

Again, after a delay of > about one second, it fully closed the window (including all its tabs) of Firefox > that is was being opened into. The other Firefox window was unaffected, > including all its tabs. OK. I will se if I can reproduce that. It looks as though Firefox is not crashing, which is why I suggested that something in the page was requesting a window close in comment 16 .
