Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 Often when i surf the web I work from one master page (can be a search result or a links summary page) and examine links from that master page into new tabs. When I finished reading one sub page I quit the newly opened tab to get back to the master page. After I while though it happens that I close the master page tab as well by mistake. It would be nice if the quit icon for a tab (my master page) could be temorarily disabled. Reproducible: Always
I think more details are needed here. Do you mean the close tab button on the top right? And when should it be disabled? When you are down to one tab left or always? And do you mean that just the first tab should have the close tab button disabled? If so, what happens if you want to close it?

I mean the small orange cross close button to the right of all tab tabs. I am thinking there should be a menu choice on the tab popup menu for disabling its close (locking it). Then the button and the "close tab" menu choice should be disabled, if trying to close any way, a message saying "tab is locked" or perhaps just an extra question "tab is locked, really close it?" I do not mean just the first tab but any tab that I chose to use as a "master" tab.

Changing summary to make sense. I think it's wontfix and you should ask for extension instead. Probably there is one that does it already.
OS: Windows XP → All
Hardware: PC → All
Summary: Disable the quit button when browsing using tabs → Allow disabling "Close tab" for tabs of user choice
Version: unspecified → Trunk

(In reply to comment #4) > Duplicate of Core bug 164213? Yep, its a duplicate
actually it isn't. because core:tabbed browser doesn't belong in core (it belongs in suite), and suite tabbed browser and firefox tabbed browser are distinct.
