WinNT 2000-02-16-08-M14 mozilla build Should initiate folders correctly after set up UW IMAP server "Mail" directory This bug is related to bug#19248, since the advanced dialog already available for IMAP server directory..so should have this implementation, too. Setup Info: a) Created new profile, new account b) Setup Advanced of the Account Setup : "IMAP server directory: Mail" Steps: 1) After above b) "IMAP server directory: Mail" setup 2) Exit the seamonkey application. 3) Actual Results: View the folders pane, it didn't refresh with Inbox & Trash initially. Expected Results: Should refresh with Inbox & Trash initially on the folders pane since the IMAP server directory already set to "Mail".

Sorry. I miss a step -- after the step 2) should add a step: Login to this IMAP mail account again.

So we don't discover IMAP folders which exist on the server even after providing the right server subdirectory? Is that the bug? If so, I think it's a beta1 stopper. Reassign to jefft.

This should really depend on what the original uw account being setup on user's home directory. Meaning what mailbox has been subscribed and recorded in user's .mailboxlist. If they match we don't have a problem at all.

Mass moving to M16 to get these off the M15 radar. Please let me know if this is really an M15 stopper.

Adding beta2 on the keywords. Raising priority to P2.
Keywords: beta2
Priority: P3 → P2
QA shouldn't change the priority since development uses it to prioritize their work.

I can't tell of there is a real interop bug here or not. Jeff and Karen, can you guys decide what the real bug is, and then we'll decide if it's a beta2-stopper.

Karen - let's just summarize what the bug is here without referring to other bug numbers.

Yes. I believe that I already described the problem from the description & steps here. I am not quite sure what Jeff means? Actually when I tried from 4.7, I can implement IMAP server directory "Mail" directory succeffsully, I don't understand why Netscape 6.0 not allow to do that? no matter the folders subscribed or not...it should allow to point to the mail directory, isn't it?

My point is: 1)After you set the IMAP server directory to :Mail, it should only display all the folders & message which only created from this directory. 2)After you created those folders/messages from the Mail directory, if you go back to leave blank from the IMAP server directory, you should see the mail directory created & also you can see all the folders & messages (include Mail directory's folders & messages) I think this setup/design is for share Mail folders.....

We don't refresh/rebuild the rdf node after setting the imap server directory pref in the Account Setup yet.

Jeff, can you describe more? Is that existing bug? Maybe we should log another bug which block this bug. (I mean this bug depends on that bug....do you know the bug number?)

Karen - jeff is explaining the underlying cause of this bug. No need to open a new bug.

Don't log any more bugs please. We have too many bugs already regarding this namespace problem. Not refreshing/rebuilding is part of this problem of not showing the correct mail folder hierarchy. The other part of the problem has to do with the folder subscription. I am not investigating this bug at the moment so I cannot give you the right answer.

Finally I got a chance to look into how 4.7 behave based on the scenario described above. 4.7 prompt you for the password and does the folder discovery while adding the new account (prior closing down the Preferences dialog). Although you can enter the imap server directory but it won't take (a 4.7 bug). You have to enter it again after the folder discovery (after the password prompt). Once, you close down the Preferences dialog box 4.7 does *not* refresh/rebuild the folder tree either. I don't think this should be a nsbeta2 stopper as compared to 4.7. Side note: Setting imap server directory overrides the subscription list recorded in the .mailboxlist. It only pays attention to the folders under the imap server directory. Which sort of make sense. More investigation and thinking need here to coming up with what's the right behavior when namespace, imap server directory, and subscription play together.

Jeff, it seems that what stated in your side note, specifically the first two sentences) does not happen in Netscape 6? I guess I am unclear whether you implied that it did work? In my case, I see none of the mail folders in my IMAP server directory - also I have no .mailboxlist file.

Thanks for the research, Jeff. Sounds like the right fix is for us to go rediscover mail folders in the new directory, but since 4.x doesn't do that either, I'll mark this nsbeta2-

Tony, .mailboxlist and Imap Server Directory only apply to UW IMAP server. In the ideal implementation we should only have the UI pref available for the UW server only. It's sort of working for Netscape 6. We have many bugs logged against namespace and Imap Server Directory. I am trying the log the findings when I played with 4.7 so I won't forget (getting old).

Netscape 4.7 rediscovers my mail folders in two cases - 1)every time I start the mail client, 2) When I dblclick the mail server name to minmize it, then dblclick again to expand it -- at this point mail folders are discovered again (I use this method often when I add mail folders via the UNIX side behind netscapes back :-)) (just mentioning this since I am not sure if its opposite to the netscape4.7 bug that is mentioned here)
