If the real name entered in checksetup contains non ASCI the name displayed in 
the prefs page is corupted.
I entred Cédric and then prefs page displayed C'dric

What browser do you use? As you can see, my name has accents and I have no
problem about that. Moreover, your name above looks bad.... Maybe a
configuration problem with your browser?

I am using IE 6 (XP SP2)

I just enabled the Auto Select option in the View\Encoding menu

In this page it is working fine.

Maybe a problem with the enter_bug.cgi page ??

but the original problem with checksetup.pl is not browser dependent..

Fixed by blocking bug 126266.
