re: bug report ID 26951.  Identical problem. Occurs always with typed or
bookmarked entries.  Can not use Firefox.  IE on same notebook has no problem
accessing URL's.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.  type url.
2.  select location and type url.
3.  enter url from bookmarks.

Actual Results:  
window contains message:

ALERT  www. (xxxx.ooo) could not be found. please check the name and try again.


Expected Results:  
My windows ME machine and my Compaq are running Firefox nicely...better by far
than  IE.  I would appreciate a fix for this problem.  Thank you,  Lloyd



The problem is on a Toshiba 1805 notebook with XP Home edition.  I have recently
installed DeLorme Street Atlas 2003.  And I have been tweaking the security
systems a little.
The Virus block programs are AVG, SpywareBlaster, Spybot and ZoneAlarm. These
applications are also on the ME  and the Compaq and have not caused problems.

Which bug number? (and please add always the word bug before a number, so
bugzilla can make a hyperlink)

ZoneAlarm is a firewall. Are you sure you have allowed mozilla.exe to access the
internet etc.?

Seriously, what are you talking about?  26951 was a duplicate, first of all. 
Second, it had nothing to do with this or anything that you said above.

Reporter, could you please provide the correct bug number which you referenced
in your comment 0?

Does this happen for all URLs, even for valid ones (for example which are
correct and reachable with other browsers)? See Bug 253714.

Please reopen if properly configuring your proxy or firewall does not fix this.
