Currently Extension Manager and the form of collecting plaugins is complex and
in a number of steps for newbies or the wider Internet user audience.

On is described how Azureus handles Plugins/extensions

azureus.sf.net is another Open Source program that aims to be user friendly.

Plugins menu > Installation wizard
is a prime example of how simple it is for Firefox users to potentially add
extensions to their browser.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Tools

Hmmm....

The aim of Firefox has been precisely to minimise the amount of bloat in the
browser. It is for this reason that the Extension and Theme Manager windows are
deliberately kept quite small and with minimal buttons to press etc.

Currently Firefox will automatically inform users of when they browse to a
website that requires a plugin to be installed and will do so for the user upon
their approval. You are also able to download your extensions and themes through
the official addons.mozilla.org site. Adding more internal functionality for
browsing for plugins and updates would go against the principals of Firefox,
causing bandwidth problems, and also be confusing for many of Firefox's target
audience who are not used to Linux-style internal updaters of this sort.

Also, when submitting bugs, please ensure that you follow the instructions in
the form and actually give clear and precise explanations of what you mean.

i'm sorry but i still object to the response.

there is no point being lightweight if noone choices to use it due to complexity.
i also refus to believe such a feature will make the browser bloated, but mearly
will be a complementary part of the Preferences/Options screen.

a option icon on left of the options dialogue (Plugins, divided to installed and
maybe available.)

The seperate extensions window dialogue has got to go!!!!

:)

i am reopening this enhancement request as i believe is duely necessary and
detremental to the widespread usage of Mozilla-Firefox.

This would be appropriate on a wiki but not as a bug.
http://wiki.mozilla.org/

Also, a good place to discuss these high level designs is on the mailing list
https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/

After the details of what and how are flushed out and there is buy in then it is appropriate to open an enhancement bug to implement it.
