I've read all your workarounds and change the ini file for synaptics and updated my driver to the most latest one and also made sure that the hardware settings had already enable the virtual scrolling but sorry guys I'm still not able to scroll using my synaptics touchad. I'm using a compaq presario x1400. I know this sounds like a duplicating issue but believe me, this is a problem that you may wish to look into carefully. Cheers. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. launch mozilla 2. open any page long web page 3. use the scroll pad on the synaptics touchpad to scroll down or up Actual Results: the page didn't scroll at all Expected Results: the page should be able to scroll up and down

>I know this sounds like a duplicating issue but believe me, this is a problem >that you may wish to look into carefully. Why Do you think that we could change the mouse driver ? Only synapthics can do that. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 56892 ***

AND a duplicate symptoms doesn't mean that it's the same problem and can be just be forgotten. Where's the curiosity?

I have the same issue...I have a Hewlett Packard DV1010us which also has synaptics drivers. I've tried the whole thing...changing the ini file, updating the drivers, and to my avail, it still doesn't work. If anyone is still having problems with this please vote for this bug so it can get some attention...it's extremely annoying to have when your scrollbar works in every other program except for FireFox. BTW, when I attempt to scroll a very very tiny scroll bar shows up right under my mouse. It looks like it's attempting to scroll, but it's not so successful in doing so.

I think I just confirmed this elsewhere, but I have the same problem on a Compaq Presario V2000 with a Synaptics touchpad. Old driver versions worked just fine with Firefox, but all the newer ones (7.12.2 from Compaq and 7.14.x from Synaptics) do not. Virtual scrolling works just fine with other programs, but in Firefox, though a little vertical scroll bar appears, no actual scrolling takes place. It's a bit frustrating.
Indeed, does anyone know where we can get the newest drivers that actually WORK in FF?
I have a hp dv1000 and encountered a vertical scroll problem with the latest Synaptics drivers available on the hp site. (v7.12.2). Behavior is as follows: when I try to scroll, a mini-scrollbar object appears in the window, but nothing actually scrolls. However, I rolled back to Synaptics v7.10.8, which I found here (http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?releaseid=r77273). Now vertical scrolling works fine. Don't know if this is a Filefox issue or a Synaptics issue.
Same problem with scrolling. Tries but will not move up or down.Medion MD6032 by MSI.
Me too. HP Pavilion ze1230 laptop with Synaptics touchpad driver. Firefox is the ONLY application which does not scroll when I use the vertial scroll area of the touchpad.
Having same issue, love my virtual scroll but does not work in foxfire or thunderbird.

Ditto, using the 7.12.7 driver. FWIW, this driver upgrade enabled the scroll buttons in the middle of the mouse click buttons, under the touchpad. I am currently using the older driver, in which the virtual scrolling works, but the actual scroll buttons do not. I have a WinBook.

Well, this is another me too, but with some additional info. For me this behaviour started after I installed XP SP2. Before it the scrolling worked fine. My computer is HP Compaq nw8000, the driver version is 7.12.2.0 which I installed about a month before upgrading to SP2. Affected ff versions were 1.0 final RC, 1.0 and 1.0.1.

The same problem on Compaq Presario 700, WinXP SP2, latest Synaptics driver. In other app my synaptics touchpad works fine. FF is the only where scroll doesn't work.

>AND a duplicate symptoms doesn't mean that it's the >same problem and can be just be forgotten. Where's the curiosity? It's the same problem because it works with all "normal "mouse driver. The scrollign events are generated by the driver. That it works in all other applications doesn't matter because they use native controls while Firefox/Mozilla does not. markign as dupe of bug 20618 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 20618 ***
